Twenty-five of Dalton State's respiratory students volunteered at Go!Fest held at the Chattanooga Zoo last weekend.
This event is part of an initiative created to make healthcare more accessible to everyone regardless of their backgrounds, by providing free asthma screening to attendees interested in learning more about lung disease and prevention.
A team of physicians who specialize in asthma, allergy, and immunology also help by reading the screens and advising the attendees on their individual needs. Many of these people screened do not have access to or do not know how to obtain the care they need, but through the work of the American Lung Association in Chattanooga and our very own respiratory therapy students, many were able to receive information about their health.
"It is very beneficial to the community," said Christy Walker, who is an assistant professor of clinical education at Dalton State. "Our students are the only ones from our region who participate in the event."
